Root Feather Butterfly 2023

an excerpt

Fact is fiction, and fiction is just as often fact. That is the way of the world, and it is frequently quite difficult to decipher what is, from what is not. And that is because each who take of it, take of it from their own sense. As such, there is always much to be understood in our attempts to understand. And through it all, there is always much to be gained, although it is never the same for those who do the giving and those who do the taking.

So to each their own in deciphering this tale, for there is much to be found in the telling and the listening. For sure, there was one lesson learned by your much-humbled taler, and that is, that in the taling of tales, the order that’s ordered is not always exactly the order that’s served. Fate is quite a fately thing, and so it often fails to follow the course we set for it. But on the surface of the tale, there is one certain thing.

Home is more than just a place. It is a far greater thing, and as a far greater thing, it cannot just simply be found. It must be felt. As a far greater thing in the world, it cannot also just simply be made, but comes into being of its own right. The making of home will always reveal the makings of home, but it will never offer a substitute for home itself.

And in the taling of this tale, there are lessons on being and truth, desire and hope. Seeing and listening. Who we are, and what we make for and of ourselves and others.

That is the certain cover of what has been woven. But it is also, simply just that.

For in making good sense of the tale that is offered,

Much can be made, though it’s best to recall.

That in any attempt to make meaning of meaning,

You can simply remember, the walrus was Paul.

And these are but words, doing the work that words and foxes forever do.
